You can easily camp in belle ile and the islands around (i mean houat and Hoedic) which are beautiful too.
I can't say anything about the youth hostels I never used them...
If you go in this part of France don't miss the "golfe du morbihian" which is very near with a lot of islands smaller but very nice too
good holidays and sorry for my english, you will notice that most french have a bad english.

sauzon is THE town to be. hotel du phare is really on the spot right in the small harbour, but surely prycey in summer...camping is a good option. i'd recommand too houat & hoedic island, if you really want to escape from the crowd (no car in the islands)

It's sure, you have to go to Sauzon.
I worked in Hotel du Phare 15 years ago.... Only 16 rooms...
Very frienly place to stay..

Le palais is the main city but sauzon is more pretty
you also have to see the "pointe des Poulains"

All depends on your budget and on the way you will move on the island: car, bike, walking? By bike, Sauzon is pretty far for the other side of the Island. Le Palais is in the middle, like a small place: Bangor (there is a nice hotel called "La Désirade", very calm, but quite expensive...)
Sauzon and Le Palais are the main places, but the interest of Belle-ile is to walk around and discover many natural beaches (for me, the most beautiful beaches are on the Atlantic's side and not in front of the continent).
